The ingredients needed to make Fish in mustard gravy:
  1. Prepare 1 kg rohu fish
  2. Make ready 2-3 potatoes
  3. Get 2 medium sized tomatoes
  4. Get 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
  5. Prepare 200 ml mustard oil
  6. Make ready 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  7. Get 1 tsp turmeric powder
  8. Take 2 tbsp coriander powder
  9. Take 1 tsp black pepper powder
  10. Prepare 3 tbsp mustard powder
  11. Get 1/2 cup onion paste
  12. Prepare 2 tbsp garlic paste
  13. Prepare For frying fish:
  14. Get 1 tsp turmeric powder
  15. Take 1 tsp red chilli powder
  16. Prepare 1/2 tsp salt

This fish curry is a variation to bengali fish curry in mustard sauce with some add on spices. One more thing that is unique to this is traditionally a piece of dry mango called 'ambula' is added to give the In odisha we call this 'Macha Besara', Macha means fish and besara is the mustard gravy.   1. Wash and drain fish.Add red chilli powder,turmeric powder and salt.
  2. Heat 100 ml oil and and fry fish in two batches.Take out and keep aside.
  3. Heat remaining oil in the same pan,add onion and garlic paste.Saute fot 10 seconds.Add 1tbsp water and cook on low flame for 1 minute.
  4. Add remaining spices and cook for 4-5minutes. Add chopped tomatoes and salt.Add potatoes and cook till done.
  5. Adjust gravy,add fried fish.Cook for 3-4minutes.
  6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  7. Serve with hot boiled rice.
