The ingredients needed to make Goan Fish Kalputi:
Make ready 250 GM head portion of the fish (I have used chonak/ sea bass)
Get 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
Get 1 big onion, finely chopped
Get 1 green chilli, slit vertically
Get 1 TSP turmeric powder
Get 1 TSP red chilli powder
Take 4-5 dried kokam pieces
Get 1-2 TSP coconut oil
Take to taste Salt
Prepare 1/2 TSP Sugar
Get 3-4 TBSP water
Instructions to make Goan Fish Kalputi:
Apply 1/2 TSP turmeric powder and about 1 TSP salt to the cleaned fish and keep aside.
In a pan, heat the coconut oil. Add green chilli and onion. Sauté till the onions soften.
Next add in the freshly grated coconut and fish and sauté for a few mins.
Add the remaining turmeric powder, red chilli powder and sugar. Add salt as per taste- remember we have added some salt to the marinade as well. Add kokam pieces, some water and give it a good mix. As you mix, some flesh from the fish will separate from the bone and that's fine.
Cover with a plate and add some water on top of this plate- this will prevent the mixture inside from drying out. Let it cook for about 3-5 mins. Switch off the flame and serve!
