The ingredients needed to make Moong Dal Khichdi:
  1. Prepare 1/2 cup kolam/basmati rice
  2. Prepare 1/2 cup moong dal
  3. Take 4 cup water
  4. Get 1 tbsp ghee
  5. Take 1 small piece cinnamon
  6. Take 2 cloves
  7. Take 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  8. Get Pinch asafoetida
  9. Make ready to taste Salt

  11. Get 1 tsp red chilli powder
  12. Take 1 tsp coriander powder

Khichdi with a dollop of butter is amazing. It just melts in your mouth. You can also add ghee, but I'm not a fan of eating ghee raw. Khichdi also goes perfectly with yogurt and achaar (pickle).

Steps to make Moong Dal Khichdi:
  1. Mix the rice and dal and wash it 2 times. Add 4 cups water to it and soak for half an hour.
  2. In a cooker, heat ghee, add cinnamon, cloves, cumin, asafoetida, turmeric powder, chilli powder and mix it. Now add soaked rice-dal. Lastly add salt and coriander powder. Stir and mix well.
  3. Cover the lid of cooker and let it cook till 4 whistles.
  4. Let the steam release. Open the lid and stir the khichdi. Serve hot with kadhi, pickle and papad.

You can also add ghee, but I'm not a fan of eating ghee raw. Khichdi also goes perfectly with yogurt and achaar (pickle). It lends a creamy flavor with a salty kick.
