The ingredients needed to make No Fry Dal vada:
  1. Take 1/2 cup chilka moong dal(split green lentils)
  2. Take 3-4 fresh green chillies
  3. Prepare Some chopped ginger
  4. Prepare Some Finely chopped coriander
  5. Get 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  6. Prepare to taste Salt
  7. Prepare 5-6 tsp oil (making dal Vada)

If you find dal to be too thick, add half cup of water (little at a time ) to make it grind easily. Transfer the batter into a large bowl and salt and cumin seeds. Instructions to make No Fry Dal vada:
  1. Soak 1/2 cup chilka moong dal(split green lentils) in water for 4 hours. - Rinse with water until excessive chilkas will be removed.
  2. Without adding any water to dal take it in a mixing jar, add 3 fresh green chillies - Add some pieces of chopped ginger(garlic optional with it) Add salt as per taste - Grind to a coarse mixture, some whole moong dal should be there in the mixture.
  3. Take the mixture in a mixing bowl,add salt, asafoetida and finely chopped coriander leaves.mix with hand blender, it will take 10 to 15 minutes to get a good consistency/aeration in the batter.
  4. Heat up the Appam pan, put some oil in all cavities and put batter in each cavity. Cover the lid and cook it on slow to medium flame until it gets a golden-brown colour.
  5. Open the lid after sometime and flip them on the other side, cover the lid and again leave for cooking.
  6. For green chillies, put 1 or 2 drops of oil in appam pan cavity and cook chillies or you can put 1 tbsp oil in non-stick pan and cook chillies and add some salt.
  7. Here’s your Special Dal Vada with No Fry twist ready. Serve it hot with saute green chillies, ketchup or green chutney.
