The ingredients needed to make Chana Dal:
  1. Make ready 1 cup chana dal
  2. Take 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  3. Make ready 1 chopped onion
  4. Prepare 1 chopped tomato
  5. Prepare 1/2 tsp salt
  6. Make ready 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  7. Take 1/3 tsp turmeric powder
  8. Prepare 1 tbsp desi ghee
  9. Prepare as required water according to need

Chana dal, or split chickpeas, is a dried, split pulse that plays an important part in South Asian cuisine. It is made by removing the outer layer of black chickpeas and then splitting the kernel. Also Known as Split Bengal gram. Chana dal is baby chickpeas that has been split and polished.

Instructions to make Chana Dal:
  1. Wash the dal properly.
  2. Heat desi ghee in cooker & add cumin seeds. Cook till they splutter
  3. Add chopped onions & cook till they become pink, add chopped tomatoes & all the ingredients.
  4. Now add Dal with 1 glass of water. Cover with lid, After a whistle, slow down the flame & cook for 10 minutes.
  5. Open the lid & serve the dal with chapati.
