  1. Make ready 1 cup flour
  2. Get 1/2 tsp baking powder
  3. Prepare 1/2 egg
  4. Take 3 tsp sugar
  5. Get 2 1/2 tbs milk
  6. Make ready 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  7. Get 3 tsp butter
  8. Make ready Note: All inredients must be at room temperature
  9. Prepare For more crunch, reduce the baking powder or eliminate it

Chin Chin - West African Fried pastry enjoyed throughout the region especially in Nigeria- Crispy Crunchy and Addictive. Chin Chin is a crunchy deep-fried snack that originated from Nigeria. It is an ideal light refreshment for you and your guests. The Nigerian Chin Chin can last for weeks if stored in an airtight container.

Instructions to make Chin-Chin (Soft):
  1. Mix all dry ingredients separately
  2. Mix all wet ingredients separately
  3. Rub the butter into the dry ingredient mix
  4. Make a hole in the center of the dry ingredient mix and pour the liquid ingredient mix
  5. Mix to form a dough
  6. Let the dough sit for 15 minutes
  7. Lightly sprinkle flour on a flat work surface and place the dough on it
  8. Flatten the dough using a rolling pin/bottle (Did I just shape my dough into Nigerian map?๐Ÿ˜…)
  9. Cut into desired shapes
  10. Heat up oil. Test the oil for appropriate temperature by placing a piece of the dough in the heated oil. If the oil is too hot, the cut dough will rise to the surface quickly. If not hot enough, it will sink to the bottom. It should rise to the surface gradually
  11. Fry
  12. Transfer to a flat surface lined with paper towel/tissue to soak up the oil. Allow to cool before storing

It is an ideal light refreshment for you and your guests. The Nigerian Chin Chin can last for weeks if stored in an airtight container. Chin-chin is a combination of flour, milk and sugar and other optional ingredients like baking powder, nutmeg and egg. They are two types of chin-chin; the soft crumbly and slightly crunchy.
